So, I picked up a cheap new vid card. Plugged it into my motherboard as instructed, turned the PC back on, but, the monitor didn't detect any VGA input or DVI input and went to sleep. This continued to happen. I removed the new vid card and plugged eveything back into its original spot, even after that, the monitor VGA was not detected and it went to sleep AGAIN! When the monitor was plugged into one of the other PCs we have, it worked fine. WTF! Does it sound like my power source is dead? Any ideas? I'm usin' FFs PC currently hopin' to find a solution to the problem with my PC. My ol' win 98 PC that I'm usin' now don't have the gump to use the hightech modem we have for the internet. Peace. My first guess would be a loose pin in the monitor's dsub. But it obviously works fine with another puter.
Are you using a pci or agp socket? What was your old card and what's the new one?

It is a PCI socket. The ol' card was an onboard intergrated GMA Intel, the new one ain't much better but a small step up, it is a Asus HD 5450. Even after I removed the new vid card from the Mother Board, and plugged everything back in to their original spots, the monitor still doesn't have any VGA or DVI input, which it had before I plugged the new card in. Strange. I'm thinking that even tho' the Mother Board can handle the vid card the power source can't. But, why wouldn't the ol' card continue to work, I was never able to install the Drivers for the new card, cuz, the monitor didn't allow me to get that far. Now that monitor doesn't have any VGA input whatsoever, unless I plug it into another PC, then it works fine. Later. Brian T.

This might sound stupid, but did you use an esd wrist strap when you switched cards? There's a chance you might have damaged your motherboard during the process. I highly doubt your psu can't handle your new card.. Even if you get it fixed I suggest you avoid integrated shite in the future, it's nothing but trouble when you want to upgrade.
OR it could be as simple you have accidently switched your input on your monitor. Sometimes the switch is on the back of the thing. And some have no switch at all...

I'm sorry to hear that. I don't think you're stupid, I have switched thousands of cards without wearing any wrist thingies. And so far never damaged a thing Just pure luck I guess, it takes very little to mess up.

That is funny indeed. Kind of reminiscent of the time I pulled out a vaccum cleaner to clean off a couch cover that had an ashtray spilled on it. When the simpler thing to have done was to simply remove the cover and shake it off outside. Wife still bugs me about that. But, guess what I'm playin' now for the time being? Nuthin' like retro game playin'. Peace. Brian T.

I'm playing the same thing. Currently doing a campaign trying to get rid of a bunch of dragons for a bottle of good stuff.. Would be cool to try a multiplayer game. What do you say? I can host it, all you have to do is type in my ip#.
